Abuja – Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) says funding mechanism of research institutes should be changed from the regular annual budgeting system to a more predictable source.
The National President of NASSI, Mr Ezekiel Essien gave the suggestion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
“There is need to change funding for research and development institutes in Nigeria from the regular annual budgeting system to a more predictable source of funding,’’ he said.
Essien said that proper funding of research institutions by the Federal Government would enhance job and wealth creation in the country.
He said that such appropriate funding would effectively promote technology and innovation through the country’s huge human and material resources.
“The technology will help the nation to control its gigantic resources in a most effective and efficient manner toward sustainable development.
“Revitalising a productive and booming national economy is the only way out of economic recession,“ he said.
Essien also urged the research institutes to transfer their technology innovations to Nigerian entrepreneurs for commercialisation.
The national president stressed that such effort would have multiplier effects on the national economy and poverty alleviation in the country.
The mandate of the association include sourcing appropriate funding for its members, marketing and advocacy with governments and their agencies
