Akwanga – Alhaji Mohammed Hussaini, a leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has called for the establishment of a committee to address the incessant crises between farmers and herdsmen.
Hussaini, who is the Chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of MACBAN, made the call on Monday in Akwanga.
He made the call while speaking with newsmen after the election of the officials of the Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) branch of the association.
“I want to advise the new officials to constitute a committee to address the cases of incessant crises between farmers and herdsmen in the interest of peace and national development.
“Constituting the committee will go long way in solving controversies between farmers and herdsmen, so as to boost food production and the socio-economic development of Nasarawa State in particular,” he said.
Hussaini urged the new officials of the association to brace up to the challenges induced by cattle grazing in farmlands in order to foster cordial relationship between farmers and herdsmen.
He appealed to farmers and herdsmen to always seek ways of resolving their disputes so as to engender the socio-economic growth of the state.
He also called on all Nigerians to be law abiding, while respecting constituted authorities and shunning negative tendencies to promote peace in the society.
He reiterated the association’s commitment to supporting efforts to promote peace and initiate good policies which would impact positively on the lives of all Nigerians.
Also speaking, Mr Shehu Muazu, the National Social Welfare Officer of MACBAN, appealed to herdsmen to ensure that their cattle did not stray into farmlands to graze.
He urged the new officials of the association to build on good relations existing between herdsman and their host communities in the state.
Responding on behalf of the new officials, Mr Haruna Umar, Chairman of Akwanga LGA branch of MACBAN, pledged to address the problems between farmers and herdsmen so as to ensure their peaceful co-existence.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Salisu Umar, Ali Abdullahi and Talatu Mohammed were elected as Public Relations Officer (PRO), Youth Leader and Treasurer of the association respectively.
