Kabul – NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan confirmed that a convoy of its troops was attacked in southern Kandahar on Wednesday afternoon.
“The attack did cause casualties,” a tweet by the mission’s account said.
Resolute Support did not identify the nationality of the troops attacked, nor if they were killed or injured.
Taliban spokesman Qari Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it took place near an Afghan intelligence quick reaction force base in the Shor Andam area of Daman district.
Meanwhile, Local news channel 1TV, citing unnamed sources, reported that it was a U.S. convoy.
Samim Khapalwak, a spokesman for the Kandahar Governor, confirmed that a suicide bombing had taken place, but said he could not yet provide further details on the target of the bombing or the number of casualties it may have caused.
