Lagos – The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, on Friday night appealed to Nigerians to shun hatred and embrace love which Christmas signifies.
The CNS made the appeal at the Nigerian Navy Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) Christmas carol in Lagos.
The event, which was held at the Naval Dockyard on Victoria Island, was attended by retired and serving naval officers and their families and friends.
The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft Commander, Maurice Eno and Rear Adm. Fergusson Bobai attended the event which featured choir ministration from different churches.
The CNS, who was the special guest at the event, read the eighth of the nine lessons of the carol.
He said that Christmas remained a season of love, and should be seen as such by Christians.
The CNS also urged Nigerians to be thankful to God for His love and sustenance.
In her remarks, the National President of NOWA and Wife of the Chief of Naval Staff, Mrs Theresa Ibas, said that carol service was one of the most potent images of Christmas.
She said that the love that Christ showed by dying for everyone should be sustained.
“With love, everything is possible,’’ she said.
The NOWA president said that Christmas was a reminder of God’s love for mankind.
She said that NOWA always held carols in a unique way to appreciate God’s love for everyone and show love to friends and families.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the carol featured a candle light procession and cutting of a cake.
There were carol renditions by NOWA and NARAWA choirs as well as performances by the Navy Steel Band. (NAN)
