Ibadan – A 23-year-old spouse, Kemi Adeyemi, on Friday secured the judgment of an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court at Agodi, Ibadan, dissolving her four-year-old marriage to 25-year-old Tajudeen Adeyemi.
The court upheld her plea for the severing of the union, citing maltreatment and incessant life-threatening battering by the husband.
Chief Mukaila Balogun, the President of the court, awarded the custody of the only child of the marriage to the mother.
Balogun also ordered the estranged husband to pay N4, 000 as monthly for the upkeep of the child.
Kemi had told the court that her husband had been treating her like a slave and beating her with lethal objects in bursts of his anger.
“He would not hesitate to hit me with iron rod, stick or bottle when drunk. He does not care about my well-being and the only child of our marriage.
“I feed myself and the child from the stipends I receive as salary. My parents warned me against the marriage but I ignored their advice.
“My experience in the last four years has thought me that not all that glitters are gold,” she said.
“I urge the court to dissolve the marriage so that I can start my life afresh since I am still young.”
Adeyemi denied the allegations, but urged the court to grant the request of his wife and dissolve the loveless marriage.
He said the petitioner (Kemi) had already packed out of his house since April 2017.(NAN)
