Abuja – The Sultan Maccido Institute for Peace, Leadership and Development Studies, University of Abuja, in collaboration with Building Bridges International, Tel Aviv, Israel, held a roundtable for peace in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dr Uwakwe Abugu, Director, Sultan Maccido Institute said that the idea to host the event was initiated by the vice-chancellor, UniAbuja.
He said that the importance of peace as a catalyst for all round development can hardly be over emphasised as the atmosphere of peace is the atmosphere of development.
He said the institute has due mandate achieving academic and professional excellence by bridging the knowledge gap among professional technocrats, public officers and security agencies.
Meanwhile, Mr Eden Fuchs, a promoter, Joint Isreal-Palestine Peace University, said peace building is for everyone and people need to connect to one another.
He added that we need to develop programmes in the curriculum that would teach people about peace and how to live together.
The vice-chancellor of the institution, Prof Michael Adikwu, commended the Sultan Maccido Institute for hosting the event.
Adikwu said the talk came at a critical threshold in the life of the nation when the search for peace and peaceful coexistence in the society have become compelling than ever.
Also, Prof. Oshita O. Oshita, Director-General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, called on Nigerians to live for one another instead of discriminating.
He said, “With the present situation we have to be more proactive and teach people how to live together.
“We have to analyze a conflict to know the cause instead of saying it because of land, it could be something else.
