Estate agent docked for allegedly duping accommodation seeker of N1m

Osogbo,   –      The police on Monday docked a 57-year -old estate agent , Adeosun Ademola in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly duping an accommodation seeker of N1 million.

Ademola is facing a two -count charge of theft and false pretext.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Musilimi Gafani, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October at about 11 a.m. at GRA in Osogbo.

Gafani said that the agent collected N1 million from the complainant, Sanusi Babatunde, on the pretext of helping him to secure a three bedroom apartment.

He added that the defendant did not secure the accommodation and refused to return the money to the complaint, a financial officer attached to police command in Osun.

He said that the offences contravened sections 419 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and Defence Counsel Doyin Agedogbon, prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olusegun Ayilara, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in the like sum.

Ayilara said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must produce evidence of tax payment and two passports sized photographs, with an affidavit of means.

She said one of the sureties must be a civil servant on grade level 6, while the other a close relative and
adjourned hearing in the matter until Dec. 10.
