Lokoja – The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja chapter, has donated relief items to victims of flood disaster at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), camps in Lokoja.
Dr. Ogunmola Ayodeji, the state chairman of the association, handed over the items to the officials at the IDPs camps at Ganaja, Anebo Quarters and Gadumo in Lokoja, on Saturday.
Ayodeji said that the association made the donations in conjunction with its cooperative arm.
He said that the gesture was borne out of the passion to reach out to the needy and alleviate their sufferings.
The chairman advised the victims to stay healthy by maintaining a hygienic environment so as to forestall an outbreak of infectious diseases at the camps.
Mrs. Christiana Atuma, Assistant State Diseases Surveillance and Notification Officer, Ministry of Health, Kogi State, also urged the victims to maintain hygienic and healthy environments so as to avoid preventable diseases.
NAN reports that the materials were received by the representatives of the Red Cross and NEMA, in the presence of representative of the state’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
NAN also reports that the Nigerian Medical Association in Kogi, had consistently collaborated with the state government to provide manpower in the camps’ clinics, since the facilities were opened.
Items donated included clothing materials, 90 cartons of noodles and other food items. (NAN)
