Police Arraign Bus Conductor For Allegedly Stealing Cellphone Valued At N5,000

Lagos    –       The police on Thursday arraigned a bus conductor, Daniel Annih, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a cellphone worth N5,000 belonging to a trader.

Annih, 18, who resides at Berger, is charged with theft.

Insp Lucky Ihiehie, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the complainant, Mulikatu Aderigbigbe, reported the matter at the Ketu Police Station on Dec. 3, about 2.18 p.m.

He said the complainant alleged that she dropped off her phone with a friend’s shop at Ikosi, area of Ketu to charge.

Ihiehie said that the complainant claimed that the accused went into the shop under the pretext of buying a bottle of water and stole her cellphone’.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

After the charges were read to him, the accused pleaded not guilty.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 16, 2019.
