Lusaka – The Zambian government said on Wednesday that it has finalised feasibility studies on the modernisation of its sole harbour, aimed at improving its operations.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Brian Mushimba, said the government was keen to upgrade the Mpulungu Harbour, which is situated in the northern part of the country.
The harbour is a gateway to the market of the Great Lakes region in Africa.
According to government figures, cooperating partners invested about $1.4 million in feasibility studies aimed at increasing the capacity of the harbour.
The minister said the goal was to develop an efficient and integrated transport system to ensure people’s travel convenience countrywide.
