Kaduna – A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Monday ordered that a 25-year-old trader, Jibrin Usman, who allegedly Kaduna State d a 12-year-old girl be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)
Magistrate Ibrahim Sidi, who gave the order, adjourned the case until Feb. 20 for hearing.
The police charged Usman, who resides at Ungwan Fulani Sabon Gari, Zaria in Kaduna, with rape.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Yilga Luka, told the court that the
matter was reported at Sabon Gari Police Station by Hadiza Mukhtar, of
Ungwan Kanama Sabon Gari, Zaria in Kaduna before it was transferred to
State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
According to Luka, on Jan. 4, at about 10 a.m, a neighbour informed the complainant that her 12-year-old daughter was seen with the defendant in his friend’s room.
Luka added that during police investigation, the defendant voluntarily confessed to have committed the crime.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 258 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
