Kaduna – Ms Blessing Nzewi, Chief Executive Officer, Bee Modelling Agency, Abuja, said on Thursday that women empowerment is key to national development.
Nzewi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
She noted that Nigeria would get the best of women if they were empowered educationally, financially, politically and emotionally.
She described formal education as the sure foundation upon which women could be empowered socially, economically and politically.
According to her, women, if educated, would naturally invest more resources in their families and children to attain higher heights in future.
Nzewi, the founder of Face of Arewa Beauty Pageant, added that young ladies could be empowered to get the best out of life through beauty pageant.
She described Face of Arewa as an innovative and educative beauty pageant aimed at giving young Northern Nigeria ladies a voice and a platform to become who they want to become.
“The pageant is focused on creating a platform to improve the lifestyle of Arewa (north) girls by providing a platform for them to sharpen their skills and personnel development to succeed in life.
“Our mandate is to provide and enhance personal development, cultural and moral values of the less privileged by ensuring we tackle issues affecting the Arewa girls in their various communities.
“Our emphases are on girl-child education, empowerment and involvement in decision making as well as malnutrition issues and drug abuse constitute a problem in this part of the country,” she said.
She said that participating in beauty pageant help young ladies to be confident and build their self-esteem, adding that it helps build their communication skills and empowers them to speak eloquently.
She also said that the pageant equally enables young ladies to recognise their strengths, values, likes, dislikes, beliefs and personality that would give them fulfilment in life.
“The ability to face one’s fears and take necessary action.”
The CEO said that the modelling agency would be holding the 2019 edition of the Face of Area Beauty Pageant for all Nigerian ladies between the ages of 18 and 27 with no height restriction.
She said that audition would take place in Abuja, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Benue and Jos respectively, between March 8 and March 17.
“Camp will open on April 13 while the main event would take place at Sheraton Hotel Abuja on April 20.
“While in camp, participants will be trained on skill acquisition: make-up, bead making, catering, fashion design and photography to make them self-employed.
“Six winners will emerge: Face of Arewa Head Queen; Face of Arewa Peace Ambassador; and Face of Arewa Gender Ambassador.
“The other category of winners will be Face of Arewa North West; Face of Arewa North Central and Face of Arewa North East,” she added.
Nzewi said that the winners would go home with cash reward, a car and a trip to tourist countries while others would receive consolation prizes.
