Rabah (Sokoto state) – Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday reiterated his administration’s commitment to resettle and rehabilitate all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
Tambuwal made the commitment during the distribution of assorted food items and cash to 9,312 IDPs in Gandi, Rabah Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Saidu Umar, the governor said his administration would invest more on improving the living standard of the people.
“We will continue to remain more committed in safeguarding the living condition of the IDPs and the entire people of our state.
“As such today, we will distribute no fewer than N5 million cash and assorted foodstuffs to the IDPs in Gandi, in order to ease their hardships,” he said.
In his address, the Chairman, Zakkat and Endowment Commission, Malam Muhammad Maidoki, commended Tambuwal for the gesture.
He said that the food assistance to be distributed at the IDP camp included 1,200 bags of rice, 300 bags each of millet, guinea corn and maize as well as 100 bags of gari.
He added that the 9,312 persons to benefit from the gesture including families of 25 deceased persons were from 19 villages affected by bandits attacks in the area.
Earlier, Malam Abubakar Rabah, the Sole Administrator of the local government, thanked the state government for its concern over the plight of the IDPs.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen, expressed appreciation for the gesture and prayed for the success of the government.
