LAGOS- A Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Andrew Abhulime, has advised Nigerians to seek the intervention of the Holy Spirit toward choosing credible leaders in the 2023 elections.
He spoke during the celebration of Pentecost, “Decent of the Holy Spirit”, at Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic church, Ijegun, Ikotun, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Catholics worldwide commemorate the Pentecost, 50 days after the Easter Sunday.
According to him, the Holy Spirit strengthens the spiritual and physical being of man in doing what is right and not what is wrong.
“We all need the Holy Spirit in our lives to speak the language of truth, love and in choosing worthy men and women after God’s heart.
“Though some people have gathered the wealth of others to themselves, we need the Holy Spirit to expose them and direct us to the right people.
“The Holy spirit makes the strong to assist the weak, the poor, the sick, lonely and transform the negative to positive,” he said.
Abhulime said that the Holy Spirit gives understanding, piety, love, forgiveness, wisdom, knowledge, counsel, oneness, charity, joy, patience, self control, chastity, faith and modesty.
He also said that the Spirit does not harbour anger, immodesty, bitterness, fear, jealousy, selfishness and hatred.
The cleric noted that anyone with the spirit of God would not listen to wrong things, avoid seeing wrong things, and guard against bad and evil contacts.
“In our world today, those who are involved in crisis, embezzlement, hatred are not with the Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Spirit unites our differences, brings our differences today and brings out our gifts that will glorify him.
“We must avoid the sin against the Holy Spirit, such as presumption, loss of hope, helplessness, resisting the truth, remaining in sin and refusal to repent from sin.”
Abhulime urged Nigerians to seek more about their soul than the flesh, and avoid gathering things of the world that would perish someday.
“Go out and get your Voter’s Card and vote the right people, don’t loose hope, seek the Holy Spirit to direct us in our actions, don’t just sit down and lament.
“We should also pray that the Holy Spirit will give us the best; let us rise and do our part,” he said. (NAN)
