LAFIA- The Tiv ethnic nationality in Nasarawa State under the aegis of Tiv Development Association (TIDA) on Thursday in Lafia, declared support for the re-election bid of Gov. Abdullahi Sule in 2023.
The group declared their support during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House in Lafia.
Speaking at the event, Mr Peter Ahemba, President of TIDA said that their support for the governor’s reelection was borne of his track record of achievements, especially in the area of security.
He said the governor, upon assumption of office in 2019, took practical steps to ensure the safe return of Tiv people displaced by crisis, especially in Nasarawa South Senatorial district back to their homes.
He added that the governor’s proactive disposition toward tackling insecurity had paid off in the state.
“Our people can now sleep with their eyes closed and are going about their farming activities in many parts of the state without fear.
“The results of the measure taken by the governor was also evident in the bumper harvest our people, who are predominantly farmers have started getting.
“So, for a governor that has shown us love like this, he deserve nothing less than our support to enable him continue the good works,” the TIDA president said.
Ahemba added that the governor had also attracted a lot of investments to many parts of efforts to turn around the economic fortune of the people.
He also expressed gratitude to Sule for appointing their sons and daughters into his government and appealed for more.
Also, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi lauded the governor’s performance in security and the love demonstrated towards the Tiv people, urging them to reciprocate the goodwill.
Responding, Gov. Sule thanked the group for their support, saying it was the first time recieving the Tiv community in such a large number.
He called on the people to remain united and committed to sustaining the peace in the state.
The governor noted that his administration was committed to inclusiveness and would ensure that the Tiv people got their rights as citizens of the state.
Sule also donated a vehicle to the officials of TIDA to ease their movements.(NAN)
