Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday organised an annual quiz competition for Junior secondary schools in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of its activities to commemorate the 2023 International Human Rights Day.
The Chairperson of the Governing Council of the NHRC, Dr. Salamatu Husseini said that the quiz competition between government and private Junior Secondary schools in FCT kick-starts the celebration of Internstional Human Rights Day 2023 by the NHRC.
This quiz, she said, is targetted at deepening their knowledge about human rights as well as empower them with knowledge, skills, attitude to uphold human rights.
According to her, the quiz competolition is in fulfilment of NHRC’s mandate to promote and protect human rights.
“While, the commemoration of 2023 International Human Rights Day avails the commission the opportunity to sensitize and educate the students on issues of Huma rights, it’s also empowers them with the knowledge, skills and attitude of promoting behaviours that uphold Human rights.
“Today, we gather not only to celebrate the principles that unite us but to ignite the spirit of knowledge through a quiz competition designed to empower our future leaders.
“As we delve into questions that echo the essence of human rights, may this year event foster deeper understanding and commitment to the universal values that binds us together.
“I will like to commend all the participatory schools for indicating interest and being part of this competition.
“It is my utmost desire and hope that we all will continue to work towards building a culture of respect for human rights in Nigeria,” she added.
Sundiata Post recalls that the competition is featuring eight schools; Junior Secondary School Area 11, Garki Abuja, Model Secondary school Maitama, Command Day Secondary School Maitama, and Junior Secondary school, Apo Legislative Quarters.
