Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide in partnership with Middlebelt Youth Council Worldwide have warned all the political parties in the country, especially the All Peoples Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership to respect the agreement of rotating the seat of presidency adopted since 1999.
The group led by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Comrade Emma Zompal gave the warning in a statement signed by them and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki this weekend.
According to the group who vowed to put the interests of the two regions ahead of any other issues, said they will keep fighting to promote rotational presidency which was adopted, as to tackle insecurity and herdsmen farmers clash in the country noted that giving the South East their rights, will stabilise unity and deepen democracy through moral persuasive channels.
They, however, vowed to engage critical stakeholders stressing that it is unpatriotic to insist that power remain in the North after Buhari’s 8years in government. “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide had confirmed that the president, Middle Belt Youth Council Worldwide, Emma Zompal, will lead the Igbo Presidency National Committee, as co-chairman of the 2023 Igbo Presidency Project, as a signal that South-East remains the only integral part of Nigeria that equity and justice favour to take a shot at the presidency.
Any attempt to thwart or denial the region this opportunity may threaten the corporate existence of Nigeria and shake the unity of the country. The South-East deserves to be president in 2023, and Igbo youths and Middle Belt youths will jointly consult with other stakeholders across the board, especially ethnic nationalities youth leaders, statesmen, opinion leaders, party leaders, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), former Generals and women leaders.
