A Nigerian lawyer, Abdul Mahmud has revealed that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is not even a Nigerian.
The revelation is coming on the heels of recent controversial comments made by Baba-Ahmed ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
In a post on his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Mahmud, who has handled many #EndSARS related cases, disclosed that Baba-Ahmed is not a Nigerian.
The lawyer wrote: “Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who appears everywhere using threats of the so-called numerical strength of the north is NOT EVEN A NIGERIAN, if we stretch the notion of constitutional citizenship.
“He’s a Mauritanian, trying to be more northern than northerners!
“He came on AriseTV spewing nonsense on competence. Do I blame him? I blame interviewers like Abati, Rufai and Tundun who didn’t research their subject well before interviewing him on a global TV.”
The NEF spokesperson has come under intense fire over comments he made concerning the 2023 presidential election.
Baba-Ahmed while addressing students at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Saturday, said, “We will lead Nigeria the way we have led Nigeria before; whether we are president or vice-president, we will lead Nigeria.
“We have the majority of the votes and the democracy says vote whom you want. Why should we accept a second class position when we know we can buy forms and contests for first class and we will win?
“Why does anybody need to threaten us and intimidate us? We will get that power, but be humble because power comes from God. We inherited leadership, being honest is not being stupid.”
