LAGOS – Organisers of the 46th Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship said that 220 players entered for the competition which served off on Monday in Lagos.
The championship is holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
Lajide Ranti, the tournament’s Head of Officiating Committee, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the players would compete in various categories.
Ranti said that the categories comprised seven events namely; men and women singles, junior boys and girls as well as cadet boys and girls.
Others are men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
“The competition started today with the registration of players and the information will help to guide us in ensuring a hitch free competition.
“So far, we have registered close to 220 athletes and they will feature in the seven events,’’ he said.
He said that officiating would be strict, saying that players are expected to comply with the rules and regulations guiding the championship.
“The officiating is going to be strict and players are expected to exhibit high level of discipline to avoid disqualification,’’ he said.
NAN reports that a total of 22 titles are up for grabs at the championship, which is solely sponsored by Molade-Okoya Thomas.
The championship will end on Nov. 28. (NAN)
