Lagos, – A total of 2,332 pilgrims from Lagos State have arrived Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the 2017 hajj.
This is after the last batch of the pilgrims numbering 304 arrived the city on Wednesday from the city of Medina, after completing Umurah rites.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr Muftau Okoya, in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the board, Mr Jamiu Dosunmu.
It said that Okoya disclosed this during a meeting with Lagos state officials in Mecca, saying,“A total of 2, 332 Pilgrims left the city of Medina after the necessary rites and have finally arrived in Mecca.
“All pilgrims have been successfully accommodated in two different hotels with necessary welfare packages and enlightenment programmes.’’
Okoya confirmed that prompt and adequate medical attention was given to the pilgrims, and he commended the medical team for “living up to expectation’’.
He also commended the Accommodation Committee for ensuring that all pilgrims were properly accommodated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Saudi Arabian government has declared Thursday, Aug. 31 as Arafat Day, and Friday, Sept. 1 as Eid-el- Kabir.
