Abuja – Twenty-four taekwondoists have been invited for national trials for the 2017 World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Championships in South Korea.
The Secretary, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Taiwo Oriss, who made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said the one-day trials would hold at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday.
He said the athletes invited were national champions as well as those with favourable WTF ranking.
“We have decided to invite 24 athletes who are national champions as well as those with good WTF ranking.
“These athletes are expected to report in Abuja for the one-day trials, where eight of them will be selected to make the team.
“The six weight categories in which the country has advantage are the ones that will be competed for during the trials.
“We want to ensure that we submit the list before April 30 which is the extended deadline for the registration of athletes,’’ the statement said.
It said the 2017 World Championship would hold in Muju, South Korea from June 22 to 30.
