Lagos, – The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Chibueze Igwe, for alleged stealing of a glass cupboard and weight lift machine.
The defendant is standing trial before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge before Magistrate L.J.K. Layeni.
The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 22 at St. John Street in Ilufe, Ojo.
He alleged that the cupboard and machine belonged to the complainant, Mrs Augustina Okafor.
According to the prosecutor, the cupboard is worth N30,000 while the machine is worth N20,000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stealing contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and is punishable with three years’ imprisonment.
The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until April 5 for trial. (NAN)
