IKEJA – A 27-year-old driver, Niyi Adeyemi, who allegedly attempted to rape a woman having her bath, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Adeyemi, a resident of No. 40, Olarokun St., Orile, Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of attempted rape, assault occasioning harm and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused committed the offences at 2 a.m., on Sept. 4, at No. 1, Balogun St., Orile-Agege, Lagos.
He said the accused attempted to rape a 53-year-old teacher while she was bathing. [eap_ad_2] Okoi said: “Adeyemi barged into the bathroom while the complainant was having her bathe and tried to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her.
“The accused, who was naked, had also removed his shoes so as not to draw attention before sneaking into the bathroom.
“`He assaulted the complainant with fist blow on her eyes when she resisted and tried to raise attention for rescue.
“Adeyemi escaped from the scene, stole the complainant’s phone valued N40,000 and also took her towel with him.”
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 171, 260 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Section 260 prescribes 14 years imprisonment for any offender, if found guilty of attempted rape.
The Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Oct. 6 for mention. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
