AKURE – The second edition of Mimiko International Soccer Tournament (MISTON) will hold between Sept. 24 and Oct. 4 in Akure, the organisers, Caring Heart Sports Foundation (CHSF) said on Monday.
Mr Akin Akinbobola, Director of the foundation, said in a statement on Monday in Akure that preparations for the tournament were in top gear toward making it colourful.
It noted that 16 U-20 clubs would participate in the second edition with three teams from Ondo State — one from each senatorial district.
“Many foreign teams have shown interest but only four or five will be allowed, while a club each will represent the geo-political zones of Nigeria.
“We have also agreed that 500 dollars will be paid by each team as participation fee and arrival date is Sept. 23.
“The chairman of CHSF, Dr Abbas Mimiko, will later in June inaugurates the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to maintain and improve on the standard of the competition last year,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, CHSF Secretary, Mr Wale Faleyimu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the event would be like a “Mini World Cup” as a way of exposing talents and hospitality in the state.
Faleyimu said the tournament was designed to discover talents with the aim of helping them to maximise their potential and providing them with opportunities to play professional football.
The first edition was won by Tiwa Warriors FC from Ondo State. (NAN)
