As many as three suspected kidnappers in Taraba State have reportedly lost their lives in a battle over ransom, according to Daily Trust.
This happened a few days after they collected the ransom from a businessman and housewife said to be based in Jalingo, the state capital.
The duo were said to have been abducted a few weeks ago, Daily Trust reports.
It was learnt that the kidnappers fought at the foot of a mountain located in the Ardo Kola Local Government Area of the state.
The villagers residing close to the mountain were said to have heard voices coming from the direction of the mountain, which is controlled by the kidnappers.
A source told journalists that three corpses were found at different spots around the mountain.
“The kidnappers fought among themselves and some of them died in the fight. It happened during the sharing of ransom but this is the first time corpses were sighted,” the source said.
The Kogin Mallam Garba in Jalingo is used by kidnappers as a route to their den in the Kwando mountain.
Villagers around the area have been warned by kidnappers not to disclose their activities to security agents.
The source further added, “The kidnappers move freely in the area; they always come on motorcycles and in some cases ransoms were brought to them in the surrounding forest, mostly in the night.”
The spokesperson for the state police command, Usman Abdullahi, said the command had not officially received the report of the incident.
“Presently l travelled out of Jalingo. l will find out and let you know. However, if it is true that the kidnappers killed themselves, it is a good development,” he said.
