LAGOS – No fewer than 3,000 runners are expected to participate in next month’s 3rd Okpekpe 10km Road Race.
The race is to hold on May 16 in Okpekpe, near Auchi in Edo.
A statement by the Media Coordinator of the race, Ade Ojeikere said that more people had enlisted for this year’s event.
It said that a former track and field international, Yusuf Ali, the technical coordinator of the event, said the now growing interest in the race was because various race managers across the world had been encouraging their people to enter for the event.
“The runners are expected to submit their registration forms with medical certificates of fitness.
“They are expected to sign a waiver form to acknowledge among other things, the risks inherent in running a 10km race unfit,’’ the statement quoted Ali as saying.

The statement added that the race would be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
The race is organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, a leading company in sports marketing, sponsorship, hospitality and rights acquisition business in the country in conjunction with the AFN and the Edo State Government.
