IBADAN – Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, on Wednesday declared
`Operation Beat Gombe’ on Sunday as the 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL) kicks off on Saturday nationwide.
Ajibade Babalade, 3SC Team Manager, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
in Ibadan that the team would go all out for victory against their
opponents on Sunday.
He said that the “Oluyole Warriors” have not recorded victory against Gombe
United in the last two seasons.
“The trend must end this weekend. We are going to break that jinx this
time around,“ he said.
According to him, 3SC last season drew goalless with Gombe United at the
Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan and lost 1-2 away.
He added that last two seasons, the club failed to gain the maximum points
at the expense of the northern team.
“So 3SC players are all out to beat the visiting Gombe United FC in their
opening match of the premier league contest on Sunday,” he said.
He then urged all the 3SC supporters and fans to turn out en masse to cheer
their darling team to victory at the newly refurbished stadium.
Babalade said that the players have been well motivated for this season and
promised that the visitors would fall at all cost on Sunday.
NAN had earlier reported that 3SC and the Oyo State Football Association
were collectively in search of continental ticket in the current league
season.
Shooting Stars won the first continental honour for Nigeria in 1976 when
the team defeated Zamalek of Egypt to claim the prestigious African Cup
Winners Cup. (NAN)
