LAGOS – Four men, who allegedly used a cutlass to assault a traffic manager, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos
Ahmed Soliu, 28; Mustafa Arisekola, 21; Wasiu Adebayo, 27; and Tunde Isa, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Cyriacus Osuji, said that the accused assaulted an official of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) on Dec. 16, at 5.30p.m. on the Alaka Bridge on the Ikorodu Road, Lagos .
He said that the accused assaulted Mr Adewale Oyeniyi when he led a LASTMA team to tow Arisekola broken down vehicle which was obstructing traffic on the bridge.
The prosecutor said when the team was about to tow the vehicle Arisekola put a call across to `his boys’.
“ Consequently, about 20 men brandishing deadly weapons arrived at the scene to prevent the LASTMA team from towing the vehicle,‘’ the prosecutor said.
“They were able to repair the vehicle and drive it away but, in the midst of the chaos, they used a machete to cut Oyeniyi on his right leg and other body parts,” Osuji said.
He said the suspects also damaged a motorcycle belonging to the LASTMA.
Osuji said that the offences contravened Sections 171, 337 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.J. Badejo-Okusanya, granted each of them N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Jan. 14 for mention. (NAN)
