At least four people were killed on Thursday in Tanzania’s western region of Kigoma after a bandit from neighboring Burundi threw a hand grenade into a mini- bus.
The police commander for Buhigee district Samwel Utonga said the Burundian bandit threw the grenade into the bus near Kilelema village in the early morning.
The bus was heading for the Lake Tanganyika shore town of Kigoma from Kasulu district, he said, adding that six other passengers were seriously injured.
“The driver of the bus was forced to stop after seeing an armed man standing in the middle of the road,” said Utonga.
“No sooner did the driver stop than the bandit threw the grenade into the bus, killing a child instantly,” said the police boss.
Utonga said police have launched a manhunt for the bandit.
