LAGOS – Four unemployed youths were on Wednesday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly beating a man to a pulp.
The accused — Toheeb Yunusa, 22; Tunde Ibrahim, 22; Yusuf Opeyemi, 21; and Nuru Ayelabowo, 21 – who reside in Apapa area of Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.
Insp. Friday Inedu, the prosecutor, alleged that the accused conspired and assaulted one Munini Ayinde on March 22 at Amukoko area of Apapa.
“The men threw stones at Ayinde and also beat him to a pulp.’’
The offences, Inedu noted, contravened Sections 171and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr Adeyemi Amos, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm, while Section 409 stipulates a two-year jail term for conspiracy.
The case was adjourned to May 7 for mention. (NAN)
