Medical experts yesterday raised the alarm over the high rate of people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to one of the medical personnel brought to Ode-Igo community by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Livinus Martins, to carry out free medical test on the people, 400 of 600 people tested between Monday and Wednesday are living with the virus.
He lamented that those leading the campaign against the wide spread of HIV have not done enough in the riverine area of the State.
Martins urged the Ministry of Health in Ondo State to focus more on the health status of people in the riverine area in order to prevent the wide spread of the disease. [eap_ad_1] The doctor also decried the birth rate in the community, saying the people need more enlightenment.
He particularly revealed how a pregnant woman went for medical service but has about 13 children.
The doctor said that efforts to discourage the husband from impregnating the wife afterwards proved abortive as he insisted that he intends to give birth to 30 children.
While highlighting the large number of people who benefited from the free health service, Martins said about 5000 people have been treated on medical consultancy, surgery, dental, eye glasses among others.
The State Representative at the NDDC, Barr. Benson Amuwa said the projection of the Commission wass to make health care available for people in the riverine community.
He lamented that people of the Niger Delta areas have been deprived their rights due to non availability of time and fund.
He assured the people that NDDC would complete all abandoned projects and also construct more roads. (DailyPost)
