NEW YORK – A report published by “My World”, a UN Global Survey for a Better World, says no fewer than five million people voted for an end to poverty by 2015.
“My World” platform steers discussions on the post-2015 agenda and enhances civil society’s participation to ensure that people’s voices are taken into consideration when drafting the new development agenda.
The report adds that the votes were gathered from 193 countries.
It states that 3.2 million people voted for good education, 2.6 million others voted for better healthcare, while 2.5 million people voted for better job opportunities.
It also states that two million people voted for an end to crime and violence, two million others voted for affordable and nutritious food and 1.9 million others voted for access to clean water and sanitation.
The report also states that 1.8 million voted for equality between men and women and 1.6 voted for support for people who cannot work.
It further states that 1.4 million voted for reliable energy at home, 1.4 voted for freedom from discrimination and persecution and 1.4 million voted for better transport and roads.
It also states that 1.3 million people voted for protecting forests, rivers and oceans, 1.2 million voted for access to phones and internet, 1.2 million others voted for political freedom and 1.1 million people voted for action on climate change. (NAN)
