Lagos – Five factory workers in Lagos were on Friday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of public peace.
The accused — Ezike Daniel (22), Godwin Ubi (22), Olaiya Kadiri (24), Udeme Felix (22) and Nwigwe Odinaka (23) — are a two-count charge bordering on disorderly conduct.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the offences were committed at 10.30 a.m. on Dec. 3, at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos while the courts were sitting.
“The accused conducted themselves in a riotous manner, capable of breaching the peace and disrupting the court proceedings.
“They are employees of Durapak company located at Awosika St., Ikeja Industrial Estate, Ikeja, Lagos.’’
“The accused came to court to support some of their colleagues that were arraigned on Dec. 3,’’ he said.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused were arrested after a distress call was sent to the police that a group of people were conducting themselves in a riotous manner during the court proceedings.
Ajebe said that the offences contravened Sections 44 (4) and 166 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
They, however, pleaded `not guilty’ to the charge.
