KANO – No fewer than 5000 physically challenged persons have benefitted from the Kano State government scholarship scheme in the last three years.
The Special Adviser on Disable People’s Affairs, Alhaji Usman Yusuf, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.
According to him, a number of children of the physically challenged persons had also benefitted from the scheme in the state.
“More than 200 children of the disable benefitted from the scheme at the primary school level, while over 1000 children benefitted at the secondary school level,’’ Yusuf said.[eap_ad_2]
He said that between 600 and 700 physically challenged persons were able to further their studies in various tertiary institutions across the state.
“Some of the beneficiaries of this scholarship scheme are now NCE graduates, while others are diploma holders.
“The government also paid WAEC fees for more than 1000 children of the physically challenged persons since the inception of this administration,’’ he said.
“It is only through education that persons with disabilities or special needs will know their right and fight for it,’’ he said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
