President Bola Tinubu on Thursday made key appointments within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), reinforcing his commitment to the fight against corruption. Mr. Ola Olukoyede has been appointed as the Chairman, and Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the Commission.
These are six things to know about Olukoyede:
- Olukoyede was the Chief of Staff to the EFCC Chair, Ibrahim Magu. He was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 10, 2018 to replace Emmanuel Aremo, whose five-year tenure expired in July 2018.
- Mr. Ola Olukoyede, an illustrious career spanning over 22 years, is a seasoned lawyer and regulatory compliance consultant specializing in fraud management and corporate intelligence.
- He possesses extensive experience within EFCC, previously serving as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023). These roles exemplify his fulfillment of the statutory requirements for the position of EFCC Chairman.
- He is a widely travelled scholar who has attended a number of training programmes within and outside of Nigeria, focusing on fraud and corruption investigation. He also specialises in Anti-Corruption Research and Analysis, Corporate and Business Intelligence Gathering and Process.
- The new Secretary is a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel (UK) and also a member, Federal Government Technical Committee on the Repositioning of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.
- He was born in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on October 14, 1969.
