BADAGRY – No fewer than 65 people were arrested on Saturday in Badagry, Lagos State, for allegedly contravening the restriction of movement order during the environmental sanitation exercise.
The alleged offenders were arrested by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) at the Seme Border area and Badagry Town.
KAI is an anti-indiscipline outfit of the Lagos State Government.
Mr Hontonyon Bamgbose, the Chairman, Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LDCA), decried the refusal of the offenders to obey an environmental law.
“It is annoying that people keep disobeying simple laws that are made for their own benefit.
“Cleaning our houses and environment helps in preventing diseases, it is good for the health of everyone.
“I wonder why it is so difficult for people to abide by this particular law,” he said.
The chairman said that those arrested would be prosecuted at the Lagos State Special Offences Court at Alausa, Ikeja.
Bamgbose said that the council had embarked on sensitisation to prevent the outbreak of epidemic in the LCDA and the entire Badagry Community.
“It is a thing of joy that our efforts have begun to yield positive results, especially on health-related issues, since Badagry West is a rural area.
“This shows the effect of the aggressive campaign we embarked upon to explain to our people the importance of sanitation,” he said.
NAN reports that a monthly environmental sanitation is observed in the state on the last Saturday of each month from 7a.m. to 10a.m.
During the exercise, there is restriction of movement of persons and vehicles. (NAN)
