NEW JERSEY (Sundiata Post) – US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a press conference on Thursday at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
It was his second in a week, following the presser at Mar-a-Lago last Thursday, where some described him as having a “meltdown.”
At Bedminster, Trump mostly repeated familiar complaints and rally talking points, with little focus on policy. The questions he received were generally easy and came from friendly media outlets.
Earlier that day, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden made their first joint appearance since Harris took over the Democratic ticket after Biden decided to step down. They addressed a rally in Maryland, where they highlighted plans to reduce prescription drug prices. This followed a new deal with pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of ten popular medications.
Harris has been gaining momentum, especially among evangelical Christians in key swing states. The non-partisan Cook Political Report shows her closing the gap with Trump in six of the seven battleground states. She is now leading in Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Polls show the two candidates tied in Georgia, with Trump holding a lead in Nevada.
JD Vance and Tim Walz, the vice presidential candidates, have meanwhile agreed to debate on October 1. The event will be broadcast on CBS.
