LAGOS – The NNPC-sponsored annual Chairman’s Cup Table Tennis championships served off on Thursday in Lagos with 72 players – 48 male and 24 female- participating.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day competition is holding at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The competition kicked off with the round-robin format to narrow down the number of players.
Samsoon Ajayi, the Head Coach, Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSSTA)– the organisers of the competition– told NAN that it was aimed at discovering talents at the grassroots.
According to him, new talents are usually discovered at the yearly event and that the association is confident of discovering more at this year’s tournament.
“As usual, discovered talents are trained for professionalism,’’ he said.
