Sango-Ota (Ogun) – The Police in Ogun on Tuesday brought eight men before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ota, for allegedly belonging to a secret cult called ‘EYE’.
The accused persons were: Adewale Ibrahim (23), Ajasa Olalekan (28), Adams Ahmed (28), Ojeniyi Michael (29), Remilekun Subaru (27), Oyelumade Gbenro (29), Ezra Jackson (24), and Akinyelu Kunle (26).
According to the Prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, the accused persons, with no fixed addresses, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawfully belonging to a secret cult.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused persons, and others still at large, committed the offences on July 13, at about 3.00 a.m. at Ilogbo, Ota.
Abdulkareem said that the accused persons and their accomplices conspired to belong to an unlawful society called ‘EYE’.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 3 and 5 of the Secret Cult (Prohibition and Special Provisions) Act, Laws of Ogun, 1999.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She also said that one of the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other should be the owner of a developed landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
Adebowale also ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.
She later adjourned the case to Aug. 22, for definite hearing. (NAN)
