Ibadan, – No fewer than 800 women, who benefitted from a training programme in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Florence Ajimobi Centre in Ibadan, received their certificates on Friday.
Presenting the certificates, the wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, said that the centre was established to bring women of the state in tune with current trends in information and communication technology.
“Research revealed that finance is a huge constraint for so many women who have the desire to improve their knowledge.
“So we decided to take that financial burden off their shoulders by making computer training available at no cost to the beneficiaries.
“Today, to the glory of God, over 2,000 women from various strata of the society have benefited from this training programme,” she said.
Ajimobi said that the course was designed in such a way that everyone who attended usually would have a life changing experience.
“I have said it before and I will say it again here that I believe strongly that ICT is the future and the future is ICT.
“It will therefore be a shame if the women of Oyo State and indeed women all over the world fail to take advantage of the wonders of modern technology to better their lives,’’ she said.
The governor’s wife urged the graduands to make a difference in their lives and businesses.
“I want you to know that this is not a push-over training course where everyone is just pushed out. Some people have failed and have been advised to retake the course.
“I therefore congratulate you for making it this far,” she said.
The Instructor at the centre, Mr Idris Busari, said that the syllabus was comprehensive enough to equip the beneficiaries.
He lauded the efforts of the governor’s wife in changing the lives of women through various schemes under her pet project.
“The world becomes smaller each day as we are all connected by the bonds of seamless communication made possible by advancement in information technology,” he said.
The centre was established in 2014 as one of the pet projects of the governor’s wife. (NAN)
