Uyo -In response to the resolve of the Akwa Ibom State Government to empower the youths, the state Executive Council has approved the establishment of 10 sports academies.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, who made this known to newsmen in Uyo on Thursday, said each of the 10 federal constituencies would have an academy each
He said the resolution was part of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s efforts at reducing indolence among the youths.
“There will also be an empowerment training programme for 329 youths in the state, in addition to the establishment of the sports academies,” he said.
Umanah noted that the citing an academy in each of the federal constituencies would facilitate the harnessing of talents from schools and communities.
“The goal is to discover such people and prepare them for future sports engagements, locally and internationally,” he said.
