Abuja -Team Nigeria’s Doreen Amata on Thursday at the 15th IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China qualified for Saturday’s final in the women’s high jump.
Amata, whose season best is 1.94 metres and with a personal best 1.95m, could only jump 1.92m to place among the best five in the 13-athlete Qualification Heat A.
She made it in her fourth attempt, after jumps of 1.80, 1.85 and 1.89, thus qualifying for Saturday evening’s final.
The final will now have 13 jumpers after the 15 others dropped out from the two-heat event which has a total of 28 jumpers.
Teammate Lindsay Lindley was not that lucky in the women’s 100m hurdles, where her time of 13.30 could not get her a place in the semi-finals.
It could only fetch her sixth place in heat 5 for a disappointing outing for the Nigerian who ran in lane 3 and has a season and personal best 12.97.

Tosin Oke’s medal hope in the men’s triple jump was also dashed as he finished eighth in the final.
Oke, whose season best is 16.98 and personal best 17.23, leapt 16.81 after three attempts.
