ABUJA – Mr Kelvin Yu, Director of Training, Huawei Technologies, Nigeria, has called for more human capacity in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to boost the education and capacity of girl child in the sector.
Yu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that the availability of highly trained human capacity would improve the knowledge of girl child in the critical ICT industry.
According to him, this will be to the advantage of the society and the people in general.
“The group requires more resource persons from the society so that we can promote the knowledge of ICT in various spheres of the economy and I think that is good for the benefit of all the people,’’ he said.
Yu explained that training girls in ICT would afford them the opportunity of having a certificate that would be useful to them to earn a living. [eap_ad_1] “For you to have ICT training there is need for seasoned hands in the ICT industry.
“Having good human resources in the ICT industry will promote faster adoption of technologies in ICT and when girls are exposed to these technologies, it will be of benefit to the larger society.”
He said that this had become necessary for Nigeria to grow faster in the area of technologies, adding that improvement would have to be maintained to meet up with international standards.
“In my opinion, Nigeria is doing very well. Just look at our training centres, every year we train people to become competent ICT operators.
“Nigeria government is really doing very well because the various tiers of government are investing in the training of the people, that is a very good programme on the part of the government because it is an enduring legacy,’’ he said.
He, however, called on the government to put in more efforts in ensuring that its fixed broadband connections compete favourably with those of other countries aside training more people to be ICT compliant.
“It is very difficult for us to handle all the training. That is why we are calling for more resource persons to handle training in ICT to meet the increasing demands of the industry.
“With good broadband connections across the country, our jobs will be much easier,” he said. (NAN)
