Abuja -The Centre for Crisis Communication, an NGO, has called on the Federal Government and states affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, to rehabilitate and reintegrate the victims.
The Executive Secretary of the centre, retired Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Anas said the call became necessary following recent indications that the reign of terror in the region would soon be brought to an end by security forces.
He said a huge number of internally displaced persons scattered in camps across the country were living under harsh conditions that required urgent attention.
According to Anas, recent findings indicate the need for better coordinated response at the Federal, States and Local Government levels to alleviate the suffering of IDPs in the various camps.
“The centre believes that beyond the provision of succour at the IDP camps, which are temporary relief measures, there is need for a more permanent arrangement toward the resettlement of the people in their communities.
“This is predicated on the likelihood that the insurgency would end within the three months deadline given to the military.
“Friendly countries and international agencies including the U.S., UK, China, Germany, World Bank, e.t.c., should be encouraged to redeem pledges made, to accelerate re-construction’’, he said.
He added that the condition of all persons displaced by the crisis was pathetic and required collaborative efforts for the victims to be fully reintegrated.
On the ongoing counter-insurgency operations, Anas expressed confidence in the ability of the armed forces to finally put to rest the reign of the insurgents in parts of the northeast.
He called for more intelligence gathering and sharing by all and sundry to address the new tactics of attack on soft targets by the insurgents.
According to him, citizens must remain security-conscious and vigilant especially in public places like markets, schools and worship centres and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Anas expressed the centre’s full support for the present administration’s anti-corruption programmes.
He urged the Federal Government not to be discouraged by the critics of the ongoing campaign but maintained that due process should be followed in prosecuting it.
“The centre acknowledges the considerable impetus in the fight against corruption, especially at the federal level with specific reference to the Treasury Single Account initiative.
“The centre believes strongly that this is a step in the right direction capable of ending leakages of revenue meant for the federation account.

“These are signs that the measures are so far working, although some few elements are averse to the current drive, the centre wants government not to relent’’, he said.
The centre also called for the construction of dams along plains that are prone to seasonal flooding, as a permanent solution to the menace of flood in parts of the country. (NAN)
