Sterling Bank employee charged with certificate forgery

LAGOS – A sterling Bank employee, Adewunmi Osinubi, was arraigned in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday and charged with forging a certificate with which he gained employment with the bank.

Osinubi, 24, who lives at 17, Anifowose St., Sango Ota, Ogun, is standing trial on a two-count charge of forgery and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ignatius Okeke, told the court that the offences were committed on March 24, 2009, during work hours at Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu. [eap_ad_1] Okeke alleged that Osinubi and another, currently at large, forged a Lagos State Polytechnic National Diploma certificate, which she presented to the bank for employment.

“The accused graduated with a pass but decided to connive with a staff of the school to forge a certificate which indicated she graduated with a lower credit,” he said

Okeke said that the offences contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Yetunde Pinheiro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Sept. 2, for trial.(NAN)
