Lagos – The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) on Thursday urged students to make use of opportunities available to them to acquire professional skills to enable them overcome unemployment challenges after graduation.
Mr Jide Awe, the Chairman, NCS Conferences Committee, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that the NCS, in partnership with some IT firms, was providing such opportunities for students to boost their understanding and confidence, ahead of their entry into the IT industry.
“We see and understand the need to provide students and young graduates of tertiary institutions with direct exposure to employers and professionals in the IT industry.
“Our aim is to boost the understanding and confidence of these young people wishing to gain entry into the industry by adding professional skills to their portfolio,’’ he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Awe said that the society and its partners were putting in place a free three-day workshop for 100 undergraduates of Nigerian universities.
He said the partners include Career Development Network (CDNet), Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), CWG, SystemSpecs, Interswitch and Internet Solutions (IS).
The committee chairman said the training tagged “I Cee Technology Workshop 2015’’ was a platform for participants to gain valuable insights from networking with industry practitioners and recruiters.
Awe said that the programme, a learning event built on sector insights, would comprise customised skills workshops offering guidance to the participants.
He said that such workshops provide participants with opportunities to have mentors and benefit from the experience of top industry players, ahead of their entry into the industry.
“I Cee Tech 2015 features include master classes by top industry players, industry visits, internships, mentoring and more,’’ the committee chairman said.(NAN)
