Abuja – The Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) on Tuesday, joined other political parties in the country in mourning the death of the first governor of Kogi, Alhaji Abubakar Audu.
This party in a statement by its National Chairman, Mr Peters Olusegun, in Abuja, said it received the news of Audu’s demise with shock.
Audu was the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi. He died on Sunday and was buried on Monday according to Islamic rites.
According to Olusegun, Audu’s death is a monumental loss to the people of Kogi in particular and Nigerians in general.
“An Iroko has fallen that will alter Kogi political arithmetic’’.
He described the deceased as ‘’an embodiment of patriotism, integrity and nobility’’, adding that late Audu had sagacity, tenacity of purpose and exceptional passion to serve his people.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He stated that Audu improved the standard of living of Kogi people, adding that the effort endeared him to the masses in the state.
Olusegun said that Nigeria would miss the service of ‘’this illustrious Prince of Kogi’’, but said ‘’we are glad that he lived a life worthy of emulation’’.
“We share the grief of members of his family, his political party, APC, Kogi Government and the people of the state.
“We pray to God Almighty to comfort and strengthen all those affected by the transition to glory of this great compatriot,’’ he added. (NAN)
