Lagos – A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a businessman, Sylvanus Nwanoro at the Ikoyi prisons for production of fake drugs.
The accused, who resides at No. 5, Ekeh Macaulay St., Iba, is standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on the alleged offence.
Nwanoro pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following an oral application for bail by defence counsel, Mr F.S. Oladele, Justice Ibrahim Buba granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Buba, however, ordered the accused to be remanded at the Ikoyi prisons pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The prosecutor, Mr Shamaki Umar told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 29.
He said that the accused was arrested Okokomaiko in Lagos, for allegedly adulterating the drug: COF ‘N’ COLD with Codeine syrup.
Umar said that the accused was engaged in counterfeiting the cough syrup with codeine, and distributing same to the public.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 1 (a), 3, 3 (1) (a) and 18 (a) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act, Cap C34, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The judge adjourned the case to Jan. 28, 2016 for trial. (NAN)
