Gashua (Yobe) – Victims of the fire disaster at the Gashua Central Market in Yobe on Saturday said they would soon get back to business.
Alhaji Maimagani Gashua, who spoke on behalf of the victims, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that 20 shops were completely razed down by the inferno.
He, however, expressed optimism that the victims would soon get over their predicament through an assistance provided by government and individuals.
“Most of us had lost hope of starting a new life quite so soon but, the assistance provided by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and individuals has rekindled our hope,’’ Maimagani said.
Alhaji Sani-Sidi, Director-General of NEMA, had donated building materials and foodstuff to the victims.
Sani-Sidi commended Sen. Ahmed Lawan representing Yobe North for reporting the incident early to NEMA.
“This provided us with good information for timely preparation and intervention.
“The agency appreciates this working relationship to serve the people better and wishes to call on other public officers to emulate this relationship in the interest of the people,’’ Sidi said.
