Sokoto (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto State Government has charged religious leaders in the state to intensify public awareness on the benefits derivable from the education of younger ones.
Dr. Jabbi Kilgore, the state’s Commissioner for Basic Education gave the charge during interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Monday.
He said religion-based approach was adopted to ensure full enrolment of children into public schools to acquire western and Islamic education.
According to him, Imams of various mosques across the state had been mobilised to make intensive public awareness on the school enrolment.
“We will do all that we can to sensitise and encourage our parents to embrace western education for the benefit of our younger generation’’, he said.
Kilgore said the ministry had taken steps to acquire modern teaching materials for all public schools.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said the era when pupils sat under trees to receive lessons was over as concrete steps had been taken to provide basic learning materials to make for easy learning.
“We are in the system to ensure better future of our young ones through the provision of sound education’’, he said.
He said that teachers will be trained to enable them to acquire more knowledge to be impacted on the children.
The commissioner solicited the support of traditional rulers in monitoring public schools in their respective domains. (NAN)
